Can I Plant Just 1 Grape Vine or Would I Need to Plant 2, and if I Have to Plant 2, Do They Need to Be Same?

I bought 1 Thompson Seedless (green) grape vine today from Lowes, my mother in law told me she thought I would have to plant 2 for pollination reasons and to get them to grow and produce right. Is this so? If this is so, do I need to buy another Thompson Seedless (green) grape vine or can I buy a different kind such as a Concord Grape (purple, with seeds)?

Also does anyone know how long it will take them to start producing grapes? I’m just curious, my daughter is excited about seeing everything grow this year. I’ve tried to put out different things and explain to her about how different things need different stuff to grow, such as more or less water, sun or shade, rich fertilized dirt or just whatever, and also how things take different amounts of time to grow.

We’re excited for spring and summer this year!!
So are ALL grapes self-pollinating?

Will it hurt the growth or flavor if I planted one of the concord grape vines as well?

I am putting up a frame with (4) 4×4′s sticking up about 7 foot out of the ground, with a 2×4 frame around the top of the 4×4 boards, with fence across the top of the frame. Approximately a 6×8 frame on top.

If I planted a different kind, could I put it approximately 8-10 foot between the vines and the top frames connecting?

You probably won’t get any grapes until next year. They grow on two year old buds. The new canes that the plant puts out this year will have grapes on them next year.

You do not need two different types of grapes. They are self pollinating.
